A rich link preview is the auto-generated preview card Telegram attaches to a URL in a post, typically showing the page title, description, and image. It makes links more clickable and informative in the feed. When Autogram includes a link in a generated post, Telegram renders this preview automatically based on the destination page's metadata.
Telegram fetches the destination page and reads its metadata, so the title, description and image belong to whoever controls that page rather than to the person posting. The result is cached on Telegram’s side, which means fixing a wrong image after publishing does not repair the card already sitting in the channel. Refreshing the cached page and posting again is the only reliable correction.
A preview is not all-or-nothing. When sending through the Bot API a post can suppress the card entirely, pick which of several links gets previewed, ask for a compact rather than a large image, and place the card above the text instead of below it. Those choices change how much vertical space a single post occupies in the feed.
A card renders only on a text post. Attach a photo and the link in the caption stays a plain link, which forces a real choice between your own visual and the destination’s. Because the preview also enlarges the post, a channel that links out constantly can end up with a feed of borrowed images, so many publishers disable the card on secondary links.
